JAMMU, Nov 23: A minor girl was killed while her two siblings sustained serious injuries after they jumped off a railway bridge in Bajalta area of city outskirts today.
The mishap occurred this morning at about 8:25. According to the reports, three siblings of village Bajalta were walking towards their school through railway track and had reached on a railway bridge when they suddenly noticed a fast moving train (Hemkunt Express) coming towards them from Jammu side and in panic, jumped off the bridge to escape.
Due to fall from the bridge, the three children identified as 11-year-old Hadia Fatima, daughter of Rashid, resident of Bajalta, her 12-year-old brother Mohiuddin and 6-year-old sister Alia Fatima received serious injuries. They were immediately rushed to Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) Sidhra, where Hadia Fatima was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
The body of the deceased child and other two injured siblings were later shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where the condition of Mohiuddin and Alia Fatima was stated to be stable while body of Hadia Fatima was handed over to her family after conducting postmortem.
SHO Police Station GRP Jammu Inspector Rahul Dev told Excelsior that the tragic mishap occurred between Kilometre 10.2 and 10.3 on a railway bridge. He said the train has stopped and the three siblings have almost crossed the bridge but in the grip of panic, they jumped from the bridge.
He said inquest proceedings in this connection has been initiated at Police Station GRP Jammu and further investigation started.
