Minor boy injured in blast in south Kashmir, succumbs

SRINAGAR: A minor boy, who was seriously wounded at the site of gunfight in Chaigund village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district last week, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
A youth was also killed and two girls injured when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators, who were trying to disrupt the Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Shopian on January 24.
Official sources said that ten-year-old Musharaf Fayaz was critically wounded when an unexploded shells went off at village Chaigund in Shopian district on January 25.
The device went off when people were removing debris of a house which was damaged during the encounter between militants and security forces a day earlier.
The boy was rushed to local hospital from where he was referred to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS). After struggling for about a week, the boy succumbed this morning.
A civilian, who was injured when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators protesting near an encounter site in Shopian on January 27, succumbed on Wednesday.
With this, three civilians died and 8 others were injured in Army firing. However, Army said that troops opened fire in self defence after heavy stone pelting in which seven soldiers were injured.
