SRINAGAR, Sept 17: To take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures, different teams of Ministers today visited flood affected areas of the Kashmir valley and assured all possible assistance to the flood victims.
Minister for Rural Development, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister for Urban Development, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Agriculture, G H Mir conducted an extensive tour of flood hit areas of the Srinagar city and took stock of the measures taken by Government for relief and rehabilitation of flood victims.
Interacting with the people at different areas, the Ministers assured them that Government has already put in place mechanism for ensuring dewatering of the waterlogged areas, providing of free ration, restoring water supply schemes, electricity and connectivity of telecom services and roads is done on priority. They also informed the people that Srinagar city has been divided into three zones and senior officers have been put in charge to monitor the task.
Another team of Ministers comprising Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Forests, Main Altaf Ahmed, Minister for CA&PD, Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan and Minister of State for Revenue and Rehabilitation, Ajaz Ahmed Khan held detailed review of the rehabilitation and relief measures in Baramulla district.
The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla gave a power point presentation on the rescue and relief measures under taken in the district to provide relief to the flood hit areas. Legislators Bhasharat Bukhari and Javed Ahmed Dar, besides other officers were also present at the meeting.
The Ministers were told that the administration was issuing regular advisories for taking preventive measures, particularly those living in the vicinity of rivers and water bodies. They were informed that community kitchens are being run at all the relief camps set up for the people displaced due to the floods.
The district administration has also taken measures to supply safe drinking water to the people by using chlorine tablets for purification, the Ministers were told. About the healthcare services, the Ministers were told that the District Hospital was functioning round the clock to attend the huge rush of patients.
The Ministers asked the district administration to expedite the distribution of relief including the payment of financial assistance to the next of the kin of those who died in the floods and first installment of Rs 75,000 to those whose houses were completely damaged in the floods.
The Ministers also visited Bandipora and Kupwara districts and took stock of the situation there.
Another Group of Ministers visited Kupwara to review the measures taken for relief, rescue, rehabilitation and restoration of damaged infrastructure in the district.
The Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Minister for CAPD and Transport, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Minister for Law and Justice, Mir Saifulla, Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Forest, Mian Altaf, Minister of State for Revenue, Ajaz Ahmed Khan discussed various issues pertaining to relief and restoration of vital services.
They impressed upon the district administration, different agencies to start restoration and relief work in the district and project the damage report in various essential sector. The Ministers assured full support for the flood affected people by the state and central Government . They asked police to provide adequate security to the ration trucks and suppliers in carrying out relief operations.
