Ministers visit earthquake hit areas, take stock of relief measures

DODA/KISHTWAR, May 10: Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majid Wani and Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo today visited various earthquake affected areas to oversee the relief and rehabilitation measures.
Accompanied by MLA Bhaderwah, Mohd Sharief Niaz, MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta and officers of the district administration, Mr Sadhotra visited Sartingal, Bhejja, Bhalra, Chinta, Seri, Khillani, Bhara, Bhalla and Malothi areas of Bhaderwah and reviewed the relief and rehabilitation measures.
Interacting with the people, he said that various teams have been constituted by the district administration to access the actual damages caused due to earthquake and asked the people to cooperate with the teams. He said State Government was fully aware of the damages and destruction and was mobilizing  its own resources to provide best possible relief to the affected for reconstruction/ repair of their damaged structures.
Minister for R&B, Abdul Majid Wani, while interacting with earthquake affected people, said that Government was with the sufferers in the hour of need and every possible step would be initiated to rebuild the damaged infrastructure.
On the occasion people projected various demands which include upgradation of Government High School Jodhpur, Primary Health Centre in Jodhpur, augmentation and construction of water supply schemes, assessment of earthquake damages in the area, increase in MGNREGA wages, ownership rights for Shyamlat–e-Deh, improvement in power supply. Mr Wani assured them that the demands would be taken up with the concerned departments.
Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo visited Bandrarna, Poohi and Hullar in the periphery of Kishtwar town and took stock of the damages caused by the earthquake.
People of these areas apprised the Minister of the hardships being faced by them like drinking water scarcity, dilapidated roads, inadequate medical facilities and staff shortage in various schools. They strongly pleaded for effective relief for the damages caused by the earthquake.
The Minister, while addressing the people, announced that the Government was committed to ensure inclusive relief and priority will be given to the most needy and poor people. In this regard, the Government will be providing free ration to the affected families for three months.
