KATHUA, Jan 19: Mini-Buses Union members and people of Lakhanpur held protest against the management of Toll Plaza Lakhanpur established on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway.
The Mini-Buses Union President Suresh Kumar and supported by Municipal Committee Chairman Ravinder Sharma, Sarpanchs and Panchs drawn from nearby areas held a meeting at Municipal Committee office Lakhanpur and expressed concerns over harassment of local people by the management of the Toll Plaza Lakhanpur management.
Later, the participants of the meeting took out protest rally and raised slogans against the management of the Toll Plaza.
While speaking, MC Lakhanpur Chairman Ravinder Sharma said that new management of Toll Plaza Lakhanpur is harassing the local people and mini-buses drivers plying within Kathua district.
“Local people are being forced to pay toll by the management of the Toll Plaza. Altercation took place on daily basis. The staff also misbehaves with the local people, which is not acceptable”, he said.
The protestors demanded exemption of the vehicles (JK08) registered in district Kathua on the patter of district Samba, where vehicles registered in that district are allowed to move without paying any toll.
“Mini-bus plying to and fro through Toll Plaza Lakhanpur should also be exempted from paying toll tax”, said Suresh Kumar.
“Our earning is limited and we can’t pay toll. Our mini-buses should be exempted from paying toll”, he demanded.
