Militants kill 2 in Kulgam

SRINAGAR, Apr 1: Militants tonight shot dead two civilians in Damhal Hanjipora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A Police officer said that militants fired upon two persons Ghulam Hassan Wagay, son of Wahab Wagay, a retired Forest department employee and Seeraj Din Ahmad in Nandimarg area of DH Pora area of Kulgam district.
Both suffered severe injuries and were shifted to nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Security forces rushed to the area and massive manhunt has been launched against the militants responsible for the killings of two men.
Meanwhile, security forces have trapped a group of militants in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district near the Line of Control (LoC) and massive searches have been launched in the area to prevent them from fleeing the cordon.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that the security forces intercepted a group of 5-6 militants near the LoC in Jumugund area of Kupwara.
He said that they were challenged leading to a gun battle in the forest area. “The firing has stopped and area is under cordon. It was snowing in the area and it has hampered the operation”, he added.
He said additional troops were rushed to the area. “Due to inclement weather, the operation may get prolonged even as all the exit points have been sealed”, he said.
An Army officer also said that the operation is going on and more areas have been cordoned off to prevent militants from fleeing.
