Srinagar : A militant was killed and a police constable injured in an ongoing fierce encounter in the frontier district of Kupwara this morning, official sources said.
They said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, on a tip-off about the presence of militants, launched a search operation at Jugdiyal Hayhama Batapora in Kupwara. However, when the security forces were sealing the area and moving towards a particular area in the village, the militants hiding in a house, resorted to indiscriminate firing. Security forces also retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, a militant was killed and an SOG jawan injured. Additional security forces had been rushed to further tighten the cordon to foil any militant attempt to escape, they said. (Agencies)
