SRINAGAR: A militant was killed in an encounter in south Kashmir district of Pulwama between militants and security forces this afternoon, official sources said.
The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said. On a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Ladoo, Pampore, in Pulwama, the sources said.
However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants opened fire. Security forces also retaliated ensuing an encounter.
The body of the militant was recovered, they said. Additional security forces and State police personnel were rushed to the area to prevent any demonstration by locals. (AGENCIES)
