SRINAGAR, Dec 27: The family of a youth from South Kashmir Thursday evening recanted the claims that the militant killed last night by forces in Hushroo village was their missing son.
A police spokesman said that the body of the slain militant was shown to family of Showkat Ahmad Lone of Lalhar, Pulwama, including his mother and two brothers Javaid Ahmad and Riyaz Ahmad Lone.
“However, the family members didn’t authenticate the identity of the deceased as that of Showkat Ahmad Lone, as was claimed by some people and reported by a section of media,” the spokesman said.
Showkat Ahmad Lone, a motor mechanic has gone missing from his Lelhar, Kakapora residence last month.
The family members said they were misled in the morning by some unknown people that the youth killed by forces in Central Kashmir’s Hushroo village was their son.
Police and Army had fought a 12-hour long gun battle in Hushroo village in which a suspected Lashkar militant, Omar Bilal, a resident of Pakistan administered Kashmir, was killed.
Protests had erupted in South Kashmir after the encounter and locals staged a protest against police in Chadoora, claiming that Showkat was killed in a staged encounter.
The spokesman added the Post Mortem of the slain militant was conducted in Government Medical College, Srinagar.  “A team of doctors headed by Head of Department Forensic Medicines, GMC Srinagar, Dr. Farida Noor took the DNA samples of the slain militant for analysis. The body of the slain militant has been kept in mortuary at GMC, Srinagar.”
