Migrants’ cash relief

Increase of rupees four hundred per head with a ceiling of rupees 6600 per family per month of four or more members by way of financial relief to Kashmir migrants has come too late and only in trickles when we consider the strong plea which the then Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla had personally made with the Home Ministry in New Delhi. The Union Home Ministry moved but not before the migrants were forced to go through the ordeal of protracted dharna and cooled their heels at the doors of authorities for months at end. A charity given so grudgingly to those who never had imagined that the state or the destiny would force them to live on charities has to be accepted even if it is peanuts. We wish the migrants regain their strong individuality that inculcates in them the spirit of love for labour, and helps them earn a proud living especially when they know for certain that they are where they are for all times to come.
