Disruption on NH hits traffic movement

JAMMU, Mar 17: While brief frequent disruptions hit the smooth movement of traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban sector since last night, Meteorological office today predicted rain and thunder-storm at scattered places in plains and snowfall on the higher reaches in Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours.
Intermittent rain continued in most parts of Jammu region on the second consecutive day today, experiencing further fall in temperature. People in Jammu again took out woollen clothes with further reduction in temperature.
Official sources said that Mehar, Seri and Cafeteria Morh area of Ramban witnessed brief disruptions in the movement of vehicular traffic due to frequent shooting stones and landslides during past 24 hours. The authorities restored one-way road and it created massive traffic jamming for hours. The load carriers with essentials were allowed to move towards Kashmir this afternoon.
Sources further said that with opening of T-5 Tunnel on Thursday, the most dangerous Panthyal landsliding zone near Ramban has been bypassed. This place had witnessed many highway casualties in the past .
Meanwhile, higher reaches of Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, Poonch and Dudu-Basantgarh (Udhampur) besides Bani in Kathua area witnessed snowfall today while intermittent rain continued in many parts of Jammu region during past 24 hours.
A MeT spokesman said that intermittent rain, thunder-storm accompanied by gusty winds will rock scattered places whereas snowfall is likely over higher reaches from March 18 to March 20. But from March 21 onwards for next couple of days, there is forecast of heavy rain or snow in the region.
The MeT official also advised the farmers to postpone spraying of orchards during this period.
Currently, the weather is cloudy at most places of Jammu and Kashmir. With this a sharp fall in temperature has been witnessed across JK UT for the last 2-3 days.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 6.6 degree Celsius temperature against 5.5 degree Celsius during the previous night and it was 1.9 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway had a low of 4.5 degree Celsius against 4.2 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 0.9 degree above normal for the gateway of Kashmir.
Tourist spot of Pahalgam recorded a low of 1.6 degree Celsius on Friday against 0.8 degree Celsius a day ago and it was 1.5 degree above normal in the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir.
Kokernag recorded a low of 4.6 degree Celsius, 1.1 degree above normal of 3.5 degree Celsius for the famous picnic spot of south Kashmir.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of 0.5 degree Celsius against 1.5 degree Celsius the previous night and it was 2.8 degree Celsius above normal for the famous ski resort.
Kupwara recorded a low of 4.6 degree Celsius against 3.2 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 1.2 degree Celsius above normal for the frontier Kashmir district, a MeT official said.
The winter capital city Jammu experienced a minimum temperature of 14.3 degree Celsius and maximum 21.8 degrees today, while holy township of Katra Mata Vaishnodevi experienced a minimum temperature of 12.5 degree Celsius.
Tourist place of Bhaderwah in Jammu region recorded a low of 4.6 degree Celsius temperature, Batote 7.3 degrees while Banihal town a night temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius today.
Leh town recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.2 degree C while Kargil had minus 2.4 degrees Celsius today.
