Srinagar, Jan 12: The weatherman has forecast light rain and snowfall in Kashmir valley for next 24 hours as night temperature across Valley rose by a few notches due to overcast conditions, providing some relief to the people from the bone chilling cold.
A Meteorological department official forecast light rain and snowfall across Kashmir and Ladakh for next 24 hours but said the weather is expected to remain mostly dry during the next six days. He said temperatures during this period will remain between 9 degree Celsius and minus 2 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Leh town of Ladakh also recorded an increase of almost one degree to settle at minus 13.1 degree Celsius, making it the second coldest recorded place in the State. The day temperature settled at 3.1 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature rose by several notches in Kashmir and Ladakh but remained below freezing with Kargil in Ladakh being the coldest recorded place at minus 14.8 degree Celsius. The day temperature of Kargil was recorded at minus 2.8 degree Celsius.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius, marking an improvement of almost three degrees compared to previous night. Srinagar had recorded a low of minus 3.6 degree Celsius yesterday. The day temperature of Srinagar was recorded at 8 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam also experienced a rise of three degrees in the night temperature which settled at minus 2.8 degree Celsius. The day temperature, however, settled at 7.5 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 6.0 degree Celsius against yesterday’s minus 7.2 degree Celsius. The day temperature settled at 3 degree Celsius.
Qazigund registered the minimum temperature of minus 2.8 degree Celsius, the mercury in Kokernag settled at minus 1.5 degree Celsius. The day temperatures at Qazigund and Kokernag settled at 8.4 degree Celsius and 7.8 degree Celsius respectively.
Kupwara, in North Kashmir, registered a low of minus 1.5 – an increase of almost two degrees as compared of the previous night and the day temperature settled at 6.4 degree Celsius.
