This is in reference to numerous news reports on spurious drugs and artcles published in this paper recently.
The concern of the society for supplying and usage of spurious drugs by patients in our State is well explained and genuine. Unscrupulous traders, corrupt officials and even some doctors who take advantage of public unawareness, absence of proper law and then implementation, outdated procedures, political unwillingness, are engaged in making fast money.
Anyway, the authorities have now initiated measures by apprehending the culprits of trade and are in process of booking members of purchasing committee of drugs, as all have played havoc with the health of people. The culprits should be tried in Fast Track Court and end of justice should be expedited. There is need to inflict deterrent punishment on criminals so that such things do not happen in the future.
Here, it is pertinent to remind that the State has registered rising cases of cancer in recent years due to unknown reasons, as reported in Legislative Assembly. It is therefore not unlikely that cause of killer disease could be, interalia, related to use of spurious or substandard drugs.
Above all, it is necessary to mention that lackadaisical approach of general public is also a reason for flourishing of such harmful practices. Cooperation and vigilant approach of common man is essential to expose and prevent such misdeeds.
