Mehbooba takes lead of over 4000 votes in Anantnag counting

SRINAGAR: Chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mehbooba took a lead of over 4000 votes in the Anantnag bypoll, where counting of votes began this morning.
However, Congress candidate Hilal Ahmad Shah alleged that a number of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were not sealed.
After briefly protesting inside the counting hall, disrupting counting of votes, Shah later started a dharna outside alleging bogus voting.
Officials said PDP candidate Ms Mehbooba took a lead of over 4000 votes, where polling in the constituency was held on June 22 to elect a representative from among 8 candidates.
They said Ms Mehbooba was leading by over 4000 votes over her nearest rival of Congress Hilal Ahmad Shah while main opposition National Conference (NC) nominee was third so far. (AGENCIES)
