SOPORE, Aug 18: Former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should side with people and tender her resignation.
In a press statement here Vakil said, “ In 2010, the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had a great opportunity to side with people to tender his resignation, but he preferred power. At present, when Kashmir is again on boil, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti prefers chair rather than calling a special Assembly session and announce her resignation,” Vakil added.
“When PDP was out of power, it would beat its chest and leave no stone unturned to demand Omar’s resignation. In power, they are talking in a different language,” Vakil maintained.
The former Congress leader expressed surprise and concern over the recent statements of former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia at Delhi advocating and talking of greater autonomy and plebiscite and asked them what they and their party did for the last 60 years in power for resolution of Kashmir issue.
Mr Vakil appealed people of the State to be cautious of such leaders who always played with the sentiments of the people and never had shown any seriousness in winning the hearts of the people of the State but crushed the aspirations of the people. Whenever they are out of power, they shred crocodile tears.
Vakil lambasted leaders of different political parties in the State and the Centre and said that when they are in power they ignore Kashmir issue and always used the issue simply to grab the power. He stressed upon the Central Government to stop the dictatorial and confrontational attitude with Hurriyat leaders and initiate dialogue process without any delay. He also demanded judicial probe into the recent killings and stressed upon the State Govt to release detainees arrested during recent turmoil.
