Subsequent to the full-fledged meeting chaired by the Governor a couple of days ago on the question of streamlining the road traffic to minimize road accidents, the Governor has issued orders to the Transport Commissioner to depute a team to Chennai to study the new and modern techniques of road building which have considerably reduced road accidents and fatalities owing to these. Two southern states, Chennai and Kerala are reported to have developed the technology of improved roads that make driving safer and far less hazardous. The team will also study the system these two State Governments have adopted in making payment of compensation to the victims of road accident. The team will also examine the system introduced by the two Governments in which some small percentage from the passenger fares is reserved for raising a fund meant for treatment of the injured persons in a road accident. We have to appreciate the point that within two days of decision taking, the Governor has ordered the team to move and bring back its report.
