Srinagar, Feb 24: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has finally accorded recognition to the Gynaecology Department of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute after the tiring efforts of the administration since 2014.
In order to obtain the recognition, the SKIMS has been working and had exhausted two changes to obtain the same. The latest chance which was utilized by the administration was the last and the final one.
The recognition of the department has finally brought about relief to scores of students who had PGs in the Gynaecology and were not able to move out of J&K as the degrees were not valid without the recognition.
The MCI has on Monday accorded sanction to award recognition to the Gynaecology Department SKIMS, with “retrospective effect,” meaning that all the degrees will be valid now.
An official at SKIMS told Excelsior they were fortunate that they got the recognition; otherwise, they would not have been eligible for the same next time. “We had exhausted two chances and this was the last one,” he said.
The doctors at the Gynae Department said that the recognition is surely going to upgrade the patient care at the hospital and will go in a long way in providing better maternity care health services to the patients who are thronging the hospital.
Further, the experts said that the move, while it will help in upgrading the patient care, is also potent in decreasing the patient load to the other maternity hospital in Valley.
