JAMMU, Jan 24: Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor JMC along with Asgar Samoon, Principal Secretary to Government Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Department J&K and Avny Lavasa, Commissioner, JMC inspected the site of proposed Cattle Pound and Goushalla at Seri Khurd Nagrota Jammu.
During the inspection, the visiting officers were apprised of the proposed project of construction of Modern Cattle Pound (Goushalla) by the Executive Engineer, JMC, Mohit Mahajan in presence of Joint Commissioner (W), JMC Jaspal Singh and MVO, JMC Dr. Zaffar Iqbal. It was informed that the Goushalla will be able to accommodate 320 stray cattle in first phase including cows, bulls & calves and will have in house facility of Quarantine, Isolation and OPD wards for animal health care. The cattle will be allowed open grazing and treated to sprinkle bath for maintaining proper hygiene. Besides, the animal by-product including Cow-dung and Urine will also be processed for making Cow ark, Phenyl, Vermicompost and also biogas as alternate fuel. The building will have Solar Panels for energy harvesting and also the rain water shall be harvested to create water pondage for animals.
The project with its location close to nature and vegetation will be an ideal site for naturopathy and also attract tourists on way to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Shrine.
The Principal Secretary suggested to keep provision to accommodate more animals in future. He also suggested to plan for creating required infrastructure for the sale of milk and its by-products within the complex. The Mayor informed that sincere efforts are being made by the JMC in creating the necessary infrastructure to give a boost to the Tourism by also planning to create an Amusement park at Nagrota which will also be an ideal attraction for the Jammuites to visit for recreation and enjoyment. The Project cost will be approximately Rs. 10.00 crore and the work will be put to tenders shortly, he added.
