Massive searches on in Torna, 2 bodies recovered

Srinagar, July 4: Army today recovered two bodies of five militants killed after they foiled a major infiltration bid in Torna sector on the Line of Control (LoC), in Uri area of district Baramulla yesterday. The intermittent firing has been reported today during the operation that is going on right on the LoC.
And tonight security forces launched a massive operation in North Kashmir’s Khadinyar village on Baramulla-Uri Highway after reports that four foreign militants were hiding in a house in the village.
Police and Army cordoned off the village and adjacent forest area and have launched massive searches. House to house searches were going on till midnight. However, no contact was established with the group.
A Defence spokesman said here: “In the ongoing operation which beat back an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in the forested area near Torna, where in one terrorist was eliminated on July 3, 2015 and one Army Soldier made the supreme sacrifice. Contact was again established with the terrorists hidden in the forested area in the morning hours today, resulting in elimination of one more terrorist, taking the total to two terrorists eliminated. Three AK-47 and three rucksacks was also recovered from his site of the operation. As per last reports, operation is still in progress.”
Sources said that half burnt body of the militant whose AK-47 was recovered today is lying near the LoC and it could not be retrieved as troops are being fired from nearby Pakistani posts. The troops are also trying to retrieve other two bodies which are also lying near the LoC.
The Army today continued its searches in the forest area in Torna and more troops also joined them so as to ensure that no member of the group is hiding in the area.
The Army yesterday foiled major infiltration bid in Torna sector of Uri yesterday, killing 5 militants. One army jawan also lost his life and another was injured in the operation that is still going on.
Around 6-8 militants had sneaked into this side near Noori Post on Friday night. Army noticed their movement and they were intercepted by army’s 8 Sikh Regiment early today in Sallar forest area along Line of Control (LoC) in Chotali village of Boniyar. The militants were challenged and they fired back at Army. The Army retaliated leading to a fierce gun battle.
The enforcements were rushed to the area from nearby Army units and army commandos were also brought in for the operation.
This area which was earlier in 1990s a major infiltration route was silent for over a decade.
Army says that over 200 militants are waiting on the LoC ready to cross into Kashmir. However, Army is alert on the LoC to foil such attempts
