2 girls among 10 from J&K qualify IAS

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, July 4: Ten candidates from Jammu and Kashmir have cracked the prestigious Indian Administrative Services (IAS)  Examination, result of  which was declared by the Union Public Service Commission today.
They included Baseer-ul-Haq (Rank 46)  from remote village of  Thannamandi in Rajouri,  Prayati Sharma ( Rank 136) hailing from Bishnah in Jammu, Afaq Giri ( Rank 457),  Mohammad Yasin ( Rank 459) from  Mendhar in Poonch,  Irfan Hafiz from Kalai in Poonch,  Deeba Farhat (553) from Kashmir, Athar Aamir-ul- Shafi Khan (560),  Ruveda Salam (878), Nitesh Sharma from Bera Bhata village in Kishtwar  and Ankit Koul from Kashmir.
After cracking all major professional entrance examinations in 2009-10, Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan joined IIT Roorkee and completed his Engineering from IIT Himachal Pradesh in July 2014. Athar had upto 2010 passed CET, AIEEE, BITSAT, almost all the entrance exams he appeared in.
Athar belongs to modest village of Devipora, Mattan in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. He is the youngest boy, 22, from Valley to get in to the services.
He even joined Government Medical College Jammu but pursued his ‘IIT dream’.
Athar credited his success to his parents, teachers and friends. “Yes, parents make way for you and teachers chisel your abilities. My friends have been always encouraging me”, he said.
Athar did his schooling from Iqbal Memorial Institute, Anantnag upto 10th standard and 12th from Tyndale Biscoe, Srinagar in 2009.
Athar, while studying B.Tech was preparing for Civil Services. As he completed his degree in July 2014, he joined a coaching academy in New Delhi.
Coming from a middle class family, Deeba Farhat is already a KAS officer, posted in Rural Development Department in Anantnag district. She qualified KAS in 2011.
Having lost her father in childhood, Deeba has mother, a brother and a sister in her family.
The girl from frontier region of Kupwara in North Kashmir, Ruveda Salam, who is in Indian Police Services posted in Maharashtra has again cracked the Indian Administrative Services, with a rank of 878.
In 2013, Ruveda became the first woman in Kashmir to crack the IAS examination. The daughter of former broadcaster first graduated as a  doctor and then qualified Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) Examination.
Before joining IPS, she was working as a senior officer in State Government.
Baseer-ul-Haq, hailing from  a remote village Kalas in Thannamandi ( Rajouri), is an M.Tech from IIT Delhi. He is also PG in Public Administration and has cracked KAS in 2013. He was serving as BDO in Ramban.
Prayati Sharma, daughter of  Deputy Director Horticulture, J P Sharma originally hailed from  Bishnah and the family has now settled at Sector 5 of  Channi Himmat in Jammu.  She is MSc in Zoology and a gold medalist. She could not qualify the preliminary examination  of  KAS but cleared the IAS in first attempt.
Irfan Hafiz, hailing  from Kalai village in Poonch, is B.Tech from NIT, Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. He did his Matriculation from Little Flower Higher Secondary School Greater Kailash, Jammu and 12th from Ranbir Higher Secondary School, Parade, Jammu.
