Massive search operation for militants in Kupwara

SRINAGAR:  A massive search operation was going on in the woods for the second day today in the frontier district of Kupwara against militants who killed a soldier yesterday, official sources said here.
Reinforcement was rushed to the area from different nearby camps to seal all exit points, they said, adding that so far, no contact was established with militants in the woods of Goguldara Bahak in Kupwara.
Since it is very dense and vast forest area, it may take  some more time to reach to militants, they said, adding that security forces from other directions have also launched searches.    A soldier was killed after a search party was attacked by militants with automatic weapons yesterday. However, the militants managed to escape from the area after the attack, they said.
It was not immediately clear whether it was an  infiltration attempt, they said. adding that a large number of militants are waiting across the Line of Control (LoC) in “launch pads” to sneak into this side before the routes are closed due to snowfall.
However, security forces, guarding the LoC are already on alert to foil any infiltration attempt from across the border. (AGENCIES)
