March to CM’s residence by daily wagers foiled in Srinagar, dozens arrested

SRINAGAR :  Police today foiled a march to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence by daily wagers of Public Health Engineering (PHE), Forest and Rural Development departments, demanding regulations of their  services.
Dozens of daily wagers were taken into custody when they were marching towards Mr Abdullah’s residence from S K Park near here.
Thousands of PHE, Forest and Rural Development daily wagers from different parts of the Kashmir valley assembled at the park today in support of their demands.    ‘We have been protesting, holding conventions and conferences on number of occasions. Minister of Finance Abudl Rahim Rather has also addressed and assured immediate solution but it is very unfortunate that despite assurances regarding regularisation of out services under SRO-64 we are still waiting,’ a protestor said.
However, when they started their march towards Mr Abdullah’s residence, security forces and state police personnel stopped them.    However, when they insisted to move forward, security forces swung into action and took into custody dozens of them.
Traffic on the road was disrupted for some time. However, normalcy returned after some time.
PHE daily wagers alleged that despite repeated assurance their services were not regularised.    Raising slogans in favour of their demands, they said some of them have even completed more than a decade in  service.
