RAJOURI, Apr 27: Residents and commuters have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating condition and rising dust and high air-pollution level in the area surrounding Panjpeer in Rajouri, as ongoing road construction work continues without adequate preventive measures.
The construction activity, being carried out in the heart of Rajouri town, has led to excessive dust/ air pollution, making it difficult for pedestrians, and motorists to carry out their daily activities. Locals have complained that the concerned construction company has failed to implement basic safeguards such as regular water sprinkling, proper covering of construction material, and effective traffic management.
The situation has worsened due to continuous movement of heavy vehicles and loose construction debris scattered along the roadside, posing both health hazards and safety risks. Shopkeepers in the vicinity have reported a decline in business, while residents have raised concerns about respiratory issues, especially among children and the elderly.
Despite the critical nature of the issue, no visible or consistent steps have been taken by the executing agency to control pollution or ensure public convenience. The absence of proper signage, barricading, and dust control mechanisms reflects a lack of accountability and planning.
The general public has urged the district administration and concerned authorities to take immediate cognizance of the matter and direct the construction company to adopt necessary environmental and safety measures.
