LEH, Jan 10: The brave martyrs Havaldar Tsewang Norboo and Sepoy Jigmat Chosdup of Ladakh Scouts were today laid to rest at their native villages, Lakjung and Nimu, in Leh district with full military honours.
Both the soldiers made the supreme sacrifice along with two other Jawans namely Sepoy Mohd Youssouf and Havaldar Dorjay Gyaltson, also of Ladakh Scouts, while on a patrol due to an avalanche in the Siachen area of Ladakh region on January 3.
Sepoy Mohd Youssouf was laid to rest in his native village Aihampur of District Kargil on January 6 with full military honours, while the funeral of Havaldar Dorjay Gyaltson is planned on January 11 at his native village Taingyar on Agam Axis in Nubra area.
Sepoy Jigmat Chosdup is survived by his two brothers and two sisters. Both brothers are also serving with the Ladakh Scouts Regiment. The mortal remains of the Jawan were laid to rest at his native village today with full Military honours at a military funeral organized by the Army Station Commander Neemo Military Station, Brigadier Manuhar Sharma along with senior military officers of the Station and Civil dignitaries.
All four soldiers were exceptional mountaineers with very high levels of fitness. They had undertaken a number of successful difficult and risky missions like route opening, route marking, launching of ladders across crevasses in the frozen frontiers of Siachen Glacier on numerous occasions. Well trained and fully aware of the risky mission at hand, they took on the challenge of undertaking the daunting task in the unpredictable Siachen Glacier, head on.
Soldiers of Ladakh region have had a formidable history of bravery in all major operations right from 1948 (as Militia units) to the Kargil War. The four martyred Jawans have, through their brave deed, upheld the rich and glorious traditions of Ladakh Scouts and have become a source of inspiration for the entire Indian Army. The entire military fraternity stands with the bereaved families in this hour of grief.
