JAMMU, Feb 14: Gharota police today foiled an attempt of forced marriage of a minor girl by her parents.
According to police sources, a 15 year-old girl of village Chakhal of Gharota area of city outskirts was being married covertly by her parents with an adult namely Golu Ram son of Tara Chand of Janipur Colony in a hidden manner at their residence today.
Sources said on getting information about this illegal act, a police party of police station Gharota headed by SHO Inspector Rajesh Sharma conducted raid in the house of the victim and rescued the girl from being married forcefully by her parents.
They said on the basis of the statement of the victim, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered against groom and parents of the girl.
