Marheen Police seizes 70 bags of Govt ration

KATHUA, Aug 16: Marheen Police has seized 70 bags of ration including 54 bags of wheat and 16 bags of rice in Haripur border village of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department (FCS&CAD) meant for distribution among the villagers of Chakra area in Marheen tehsil falling under Police Station Rajbagh of Kathua district.
According to police, the ration was seized on August 6 by a teamn of Marheen Police but due to its preoccupation with Independence Day celebrations further investigation in the matter was delayed.
Police said the ration was on the name of Jyoti Devi ration dealer Chakra but it was unloaded in the godown of a non dealer in Haripur.
Police on a tiff off raided the godown and seized the ration after non dealer failed to produce relevant documents.
Police said each bag of wheat and rice weighs 50 kgs and it was the Government supply ration for border villages which was dumped into the godown of non dealer to sell the same into black.
Police said it is investigating the matter and it also raided the FCS & CA Department local office but could not get supporting documents of transferring supply from Chakra to Haripur from the Document.
Police said it has registered a case at Police Post Marheen falling in Rajbagh Police Station Kathua district under Section 146 IPC and started investigations.
Police said on investigation department officials said that there is an official resolution in this regard and ration to non dealer at Haripur is supplied for last seven years. But they failed to produce supporting documents in this regard.
The P P incharge Marheen confirmed the seizure of departmental ration and said the department failed to produce any supporting document regarding transfer of supply from Chakra to Haripur.
He said the Assistant Director of the department has been called by police in connection with investigation tomorrow.
However when contacted AD FCS&CAD, Kathua, Haroon Naik said that it was the dealer supply meant for two places under a valid permit. He said gate pass has been issued for the supply and there was nothing illegal in this regard. There is nothing wrong and police was unnecessarily making it an issue, he added.
