BILLAWAR, Apr 6: Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, former Minister and senior Congress leader today asked the BJP-PDP Government and DyCM Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh to clear their stand on the creation of a separate district for Billawar.
In a statement, Dr Sharma said that the Billawar Sub-Division/Additional District has sufficient grounds to be upgraded as a district.  Billawar Sub-Division Headquarter is centrally located, with population of 7 lakh, and 80 kms distance far away from Kathua.
District HQ and has 6 Tehsils, 8 Blocks, 15 Niabits and 2 Treasuries adjoining to it whereas other areas are lacking far behind to fulfill these criterias, he added.
The Congress leader said that during the past years, several reports were submitted and put forth by various committees that clearly favor the formation of separate district in Billawar. “In 2006-2007,  the committee headed by Dr  S S Bloeria (Retd Chief Secretary) and 2013-2014 the Cabinet sub-committee headed by the then Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, had strongly pressed the need for the creation of separate district not only for Billawar but also for Akhnoor and Nowshera,” he reminded.
Maintaining that the people of Billawar are peace loving, and always do believe in love and equality, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma warned that the Government shouldn’t under estimate their patience.  “Achieving district status for Billawar is in the heart and soul of every inhabitant and we are willing to sacrifice everything whatever it may be so big or small to achieve our genuine demand,” he announced.
Dr Sharma said that the district status of Billawar will open new doors of splendid opportunities for people of the area and accelerate the pace of development activities throughout the length and breadth of this hilly region. “It will not only check unemployment by enhancing the employment generation,  both in Government  as well as private sectors but will also bring opportunities for the people of Billawar that are unexplored so far,” he predicted
Dr. Sharma said that the creation of ADC post by replacing SDM office will serve no purpose as SDM has his own power and role as per Revenue Act, which can’t be exercised by an officer in both capacity.
