UDHAMPUR, Jan 20: State president of NPP and former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia submitted a memorandum to the Governor NN Vohra through District Development Commissioner Udhampur for development of Udhampur town as model town under AMRUT scheme.
Mr Mankotia said that Govt of India has announced 500 towns/cities to be developed as model town/cities under (AMRUT) Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation with having basic in fracture like proper drinking water, 24 hour power supply, sewerage facilities, storm water drain, urban transport, development green spaces and parks etc to enhance the amenity value of the town/cities.
He further said that the peoples of Udhampur town with high hopes were expecting that Udhampur town will also be included in the 500 proposed city/town under central sponsored flagship programmer AMRUT but in the yesterday’s meeting for implementation of AMRUT headed by Chief Secretary J&K it was clarified that name of Udhampur town does not exist in priority list of said flagship programme due to which people of Udhampur town were feeling ignored.
Mankotia added that Udhampur town fulfills all norms required for development as model town under said Centrally sponsored programme with having more than one lakh population. The Udhampur town is also army headquarter of Northern Command and also third largest town of the State after Srinagar and Jammu situated on National Highway -1A between Jammu and Srinagar.
Mankotia urged the Governor to take up the matter with Govt of India so that Udhampur town be included in the list of 500 prioritize town/cities for its development as Model Town under AMRUT Programme.
