UDHAMPUR, Apr 30: Reiterating the demand to decrease toll tax rates at Ban toll plaza, former MLA and Panthers Party president Balwant Singh Mankotia said that NPP is deeply concerned with this issue and continuously batted strongly to revise the rates of toll tax.
While addressing a press conference at Udhampur, Mankotia informed that he has already sent memorandum to Project Director NHAI Jammu and tomorrow NPP delegation will also meet him in his office at Jammu in this regard.
Expressing deep anguish, Mankotia said that common travelers were feeling fleeced because of gradual increasing of the rates every year, which has now reached to Rs 200 (both sides) and Rs 135 (single sides). “Ban toll plaza has become the highest charging toll plaza in the whole country as per length in kilo meters, where as the commuters from Udhampur, Reasi and Katra are not even using the full stretch of Highway but they are forced to pay full charges,” he added.
Mankotia said that paying hefty amount for such distance is big burden for common man which needs immediate intervention of the authorities.
Reminding that NPP had staged one- day dharna on April 26 outside the Deputy Commissioner Office Udhampur for highlighting the public resentment in this regard, he warned massive agitation if the issue is not addressed soon. “We will be left with no option other than to launch an agitation in support of our genuine demand till its redressal and responsibility would lies on Authority as well as on Government ” he said.
Panch Kuldeep Singh and Panch Jia Lal were also present during the press conference.
