JAMMU, June 8: Seeking land rights to the displaced persons, Manjit Singh, Provincial President, Apni Party and Former Minister today appealed to the Government to disburse pending relief compensation to the displaced persons.
In a statement, Manjit Singh said that the Government of India had announced a relief package for the displaced persons and till date, the package has not been distributed among all the families.
“It was unfortunate on the part of the Revenue Department for not disbursing the relief sanction and released by the Government of India in favour of the displaced persons. From the last 5 years, the people have been deprived of their rights by a handful of officials,” he alleged.
He said that the files are gathering dust in the revenue offices and DPs are compelled to alleged harassment by the officials to mint money from them.
“It has given rise to corruption. The pending relief package is denied to DPs families for one reason or other. The delaying practice must stop and families who were deprived of relief packages should be given benefits,” he said.
“The pending files must be cleared and the deserving families should be given their dues without further delay,” he demanded.
He said that the DPs of 1971 and 1965 from Chhamb should be given land rights over the allotted land.
“Government should give ownership rights to the DPs over the land they have been holding since decades. These families had to abandon their ownership land and houses in a hostile atmosphere,” he said.
He said that the DPs were allotted land by the Government, but many families were given less land. “This deficiency of land can be fulfilled by allotting them retrieved encroached land,” he added.
