JAMMU, July 3: Manik Batra, Director of Batra Group and Chairman of ASSOCHAM J&K Council, emphasized the significance of the Cooperative movement in India during the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress held in New Delhi.
Speaking at the technical session, Batra highlighted the potential of cooperatives in empowering the country’s youth by providing employment opportunities and a platform to showcase their creativity, talent, and entrepreneurship skills.
He emphasized that cooperatives can contribute to economic growth, social welfare, environmental sustainability, and cultural diversity.
Batra also stressed the importance of cross-sectoral collaborations involving youth participation, leadership, and creativity to overcome challenges and realize the full potential of cooperatives.
During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the e-commerce platform ‘NCUI Haat,’ which enables cooperatives to sell their products directly without intermediaries. The platform also offers training and capacity building support to cooperative members, helping them with packaging, branding, and accessing government welfare schemes.
PM Modi highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to uplift millions of cooperative societies across India. The platform aims to bridge the digital divide and provide a user-friendly, secure online marketplace for businesses to thrive.
He (PM Modi) expressed the need to incorporate digital transactions and India’s dominance in this area into the cooperative sector, thereby reducing dependency on cash transactions.
