Manhas calls on Union Railway Minister

JAMMU, Mar 26: Former Member-Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Ex State president, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir, Shamsher Singh Manhas today called on Union Minister for Railways, Ashwani Vaishnaw in New Delhi and discussed about the modernization of Jammu Tawi Railway Station with him.
Manhas also urged Union Minister for Railways to consider the demand of Jammu-Poonch Railway Line. He insisted that the work of Udhampur-Baramulla rail link should speed up and it should be completed on priority so that all weather connectivity to Kashmir Valley should be restored.
Union Minister apprised former Member-Parliament about the redevelopment plan of Jammu Tawi Railway Station in which there was proposal of increasing the platforms, besides creating a new entrance from the Narwal side like the New –Delhi Railway Station. The facilities proposed under the modernization of the historic Railway Station included congestion free non-conflicting entry and exit points into the station premises, segregation of arrival and departure of passengers, adequate concourse without overcrowding, integration with other modes of transport systems—bus and metro etc, user friendly international signage, well illuminated circulating area and sufficient provision for drop off, pick up and parking among other things.
Union Minister also said there is a provision of adding four more platforms, increasing the length of the existing platforms, foot bridge and under bridge. Manhas urged Union Railway Station to redevelop the Jammu Tawi Railway Station on war footing .
