Manage traffic jams

Sir,
In Jammu, Traffic Jams have become quite often during office hours, marriage seasons and even on weekends, leading to missing of flights, trains and attending of important functions by public. The roads of Jammu are not so narrow that such situation arises every now and then. Traffic Jam is a self-created problem. Because of impatience of a few people, others have to suffer. Whenever heavy rush of traffic is there and long queue is formed, the impatient drivers break the queue and try to overtake others resulting into total blockage and choking of traffic movement for hours together. Such impatient ones are not only Matador drivers who are normally less educated to whom we usually blame for Traffic Jams, there are other educated youngsters who drive luxury cars owned by their rich parents. The vehicles stranded in jams pollute environment by their carbon exhausts. The public residing on both sides of roads, shopkeepers and traffic policemen are theworst sufferers as the carbon emitted by vehicles damage their lungs and affect their health. The unproductive burning of petrol and diesel for hours together by the scrawling vehicles is a national loss and crores of rupees are burnt for their irresponsible act.
It has been seen in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, where the roads are very narrow as compared to our Jammu but such traffic jams for long hours are not seen there. The traffic is cleared within a short time, however long may be the queue due to the traffic sense displayed by one and all. They know that if they try to overtake in such a situation, they will not be able to reach their destination in time and others as well.
Such a traffic sense is not prevailing in public of our city and due to their irresponsible behaviour, the people residing and doing business on both sides of road and policemen controlling the traffic are bound to suffer from respirational and  allergic diseases.
To get rid of these traffic jams, who so ever breaks the queue, may he be a common man or VIP i.e. Public Representative (Minister) who will be again seen on roads within a few days along with their escort vehicles may be booked and challaned uniformly, how much influential they may be, so that no body may dare to break the queue to create such type of situation. For this the Traffic Police may be provided with stickers with the words printed “Traffic Jammers “. These stickers may be pasted on both front and rear glasses of vehicles and public may be sensitised for this offence for the first time. The Traffic Police may also involve volunteer students of schools of the respective areas during such drive. For repeaters other methods available with Traffic Police may be applied.
If the above suggested measures are applied, it is hoped that our whole city will be free of 80% traffic Jams causing a big relief to the citizens.
Yours etc…
Sunil Sharma,
Jammu
