Man washes away in Tawi, 3 missing bodies recovered

DUDU,  July 19:  A 25-year-old man was washed away in Tawi river near Pattangarh in Chenani area last evening while dead bodies of a 17-year old girl and an elderly man hailing from Panchound village  were recovered from Tawi today.
Official sources said that  young  Shakina Ram, son of Darshan Kumar alias Darshnu, resident of Pattangarh near Latti was washed away while crossing river Tawi last evening. His body was recovered after long search operation by locals and police this afternoon downstream.
Meanwhile, the dead body of 17-year-old  Rekha Devi, (student of 12th class), daughter of Rattan Lal resident of Panchound village who was washed away in local Nallah on Tuesday was recovered from Tawi river about 5 kms  downstream near Doana Pul at around 1 pm. The body of 66-year-old water miller,  Mohd Sharief from the same village who tried to rescue the girl, was also recovered at  around 7 am today by locals of the area from the river.
Additional DC Udhampur, Abny Lvas  and SDM Dudu Dr Tahir Firdous alongwith R&B officials visited Panchound  and Pattangarh  and provided ex-gratia relief worth Rs 25,000 to  the families of the deceased  persons. They also assured people at Panchound to construct two foot bridges on this Nallah under CRF shortly. The people from Panchound area expressed strong resentment against District Administration and Government  for not constructing foot bridge on this nallah where four deaths have been reported in last ten years. They also strongly demanded foot bridge on  Tawi river at Lower Dudu where several such mishaps have taken place.  They said that two sleepers being used as temporary bridge on Tawi at Dudu also washed away in flood last week and people are facing lot of problems.
Meanwhile, the dead body of one Putan Devi (38), wife of Kaka Ram, resident of Sundla village in Majalta who was washed away in a local nallah was recovered today. After postmortem, the body was handed over to the family.
