Accused arrested, further investigation on: SSP

SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Police in Budgam today cracked what has been termed as a blind murder case by arresting an accused person involved in the killing of a 30 year old woman from the Soibugh area, whose body parts were chopped off by the accused, a mason by profession.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam, Tahir Gilani said that on March 8, Police Post Soibugh received an application from Tanveer Ahmad Khan resident of Soibugh Budgam-brother of the murdered woman-stating Aarifa left for coaching classes on March 7, but didn’t return home.
“The missing report was registered and the investigation was started. During the investigation, technical evidence was put to use and with the help of that, we were able to round up several suspects,” he said.
During the investigation, like others, Shabir Ahmad Wani, 40, son of Abdul Aziz Wani, resident of Mohandpora Budgam-who later confessed to the crime-was also rounded up for questioning. Click here to watch video
“After sustained questioning, the accused confessed his involvement in the commission of the crime. He further revealed that he had cut the body of the murdered woman into several pieces and buried the parts at different locations to hide his crime. On his disclosure, the body parts have been recovered,” he said.
The SSP said that the head of the body was found at the residence of the accused while the rest, from neck to torso, was found under the Sebdan Bridge.
“Her limbs and arms were found in a water tank near the house of the accused; we have also recovered the weapon used in the crime-a knife-while the crime scene has been secured for further investigation,” he said.
Gilani said that the post-mortem has been conducted and that after the completion of all the medico-legal formalities, the body has been handed over to the family.
“The case will be challaned speedily and we will ensure to have in place a fool proof investigation,” he said.While the entire area is yet to come to terms with what just happened, hundreds of people, amid raging anger, participated in the last rites of the woman.They demanded strict action against the accused while urging the authorities to ensure that the case is sent to court swiftly so that the accused man is given strict punishment.
“He should be hanged; such people should not be allowed to come out of the gallows because that is the only way to deliver justice,” one of the residents said.
