Man dies of stab injuries, family stages protest demanding arrest of culprits

JAMMU, Jan 10: A man died of multiple stab injuries at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here today, triggering protest by the family members demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and conduct of postmortem by a board of doctors.
According to the reports, Shariq Mohd son of (38), resident of Mir Mohd, resident of Gadigarh (Satwari) was stabbed by some persons on the night of January 3 following a scuffle over some unknown issue during a birthday party at one of his friend’s house at Bhagwati Nagar.
With multiple stab injuries in the abdomen, Shariq, who was in transport business, was rushed to GMCH Jammu in serious condition, where he succumbed to his injuries early this morning. Following his death, his family members and other relatives gathered outside Emergency of the Hospital and staged a protest claiming it was a pre-planned murder.
Alleging that the police are trying to shield the accused, the protesting people demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They also demanded that the postmortem be conducted by a board of doctors.
Hearing the news of the protest, senior police officers reached the spot and pacified the protesting people by assuring that no accused will be spared and the postmortem will be conducted by a board of doctors, as per their demand.
Later, a board of doctors comprising Dr Ameet Kour (Assistant Professor, Pathology), Dr Sanjay Dhar (Lecturer, Surgery), Dr Himanshu Sharma (Lecturer, Medicine) and Dr Kewal Krishan (Registrar, Forensic Medicine) conducted the postmortem in the presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class, Javed Iqbal (Naib Tehsildar Satwari) and the body of the deceased was handed over to the family members for last rites.
SDPO Bakshi Nagar, Amit Sharma, who is also holding the charge of DySP Headquarter Jammu City, Swati Sharma, said that a case FIR number 2/21 under Section 302, 34 IPC 4/25 Arms Act has been registered in this connection at police station Nowabad.
He said the accused persons had fled the scene after stabbing the victim on January 3 but after strenuous efforts of the police, two persons namely Gurdev Singh alias Sonu son of Kimat Singh of Talab Tillo and Gurdeep Singh alias Rimple son of Paramjeet Singh, resident of 138, Mohinder Nagar (Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu) have been arrested and efforts are on to nab the other accused.
