KATHUA, Nov 5: A man committed suicide in his native village Jakhol in Kathua late last night and his dead body was seen by his family and neighbors in the morning.
They informed the police which took the body into custody and later brought to DH Kathua for postmortem. The people alleged that the man who was working as a laborer in Amritsar Punjab committed suicide after receiving telephonic threat from Haryana Police.
They said Haryana Police had threatened him that they will be raiding his residence tomorrow to arrest him as son of one of his friends has kidnapped a girl from Haryana few days back and he was involved in the case.
Meanwhile, when the dead body was being shifted to Hospital a team of Haryana Police also reached the village and it has to face the wrath of the people there. Later, the Jakhol Police which was present on the spot saved the situation and shifted the body to Hospital. The Haryana Police beat a hasty retreat.
The protestors have demanded probe into the matter and action against the Haryana Police for threatening an innocent person. The Jakhol Police has however registered a case under relevant Sections of the law.
