JAMMU, July 19: Phallain Mandal police under ‘Operation Amrit’ arrested a man along with smuggled liquor.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Phallain Mandal Police Post laid a naka at Makwal and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrian escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the pedestrian after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 23 plastic bottles and 24 pouches of smuggled illicit liquor from the bag being carried by the pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Ramesh Lal, son of Mela Ram, a resident of Makwal Camp.
He was smuggling the illicit liquor to his native area for selling among the masses to make illegitimate profits.
A case under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Satwari Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by Incharge Phallain Mandal Police Post SI Sunil Manhas made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Satwari Inspector Manjeet Singh, SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
