Man arrested with 140 rolls of ‘Gattu Dor’

JAMMU, July 30: A man was today arrested after police recovered banned Chinese threads (glass-coated kite string) rolls from his possession in Narwal Bala area, falling under the jurisdiction of Bahu Fort Police Station.
As per police sources, a team from Narwal Police Post intercepted a person in Yard Number 7, who was moving under suspicious circumstances in Narwal Bala area.
During checking, police recovered 140 rolls of banned Chinese threads locally called as “Gattu Dor” from his possession and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Suresh Sanson, son of Om Parkash, a resident of Afghana Mohallah.
The accused was running a shop and was trying to sell the banned kite string among the local youth on the eve of forthcoming Raksha Bandhan, Janam Ashtami, etc.
A case under FIR Number 203/18 under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation started.
The use of ‘Chinese’ kite strings, made of nylon or any synthetic material which is non-biodegradable, was recently banned by the National Green Tribunal on the grounds that it posed threat to life and the environment.
Police team led by Incharge Narwal Police Post SI Varuneshwar Singh made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Parvez Sajjad, SDPO East Vipan Chandran, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
