KATRA, Mar 26: Police arrested an impersonator who was working as a Pithu (porter) on Mata Vaishno Devi track, here today.
Identified as Tariq Hussain, resident of Saldhar, Tehsil Mahore, the accused was working on authorization card of one Talib Hussain, resident of Saldhar, Mahore.
The impersonation case was detected during routine patrolling and checking on the Mata Vaishno Devi track ahead of the upcoming Navratra festival.
Sharing details, police said that a patrolling team stopped the said porter at Ban Ganga Bridge near Bathing Ghat, around 1700 hours, and asked him to produce his license or authorization card. Upon questioning, the accused identified himself as Talib Hussain.
However, when his Pithu card was examined, the photograph on the card did not match his appearance. Sensing something amiss, the police asked him for additional identification following which he produced an Aadhaar card, which revealed that his real name was Tariq Hussain.
Since the individual was impersonating someone else and using another person’s authorized Pithu card without proper permission to operate on Mata Vaishno Devi track, he was taken into custody and an FIR under Sector 319/223 BNS was registered in this connection at Police Station Katra. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
