Malik urges to popularize quality higher education

JAMMU, Sept 20: Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment, Abdul Gani Malik, today urged upon all the sections of the society to extend cooperation to popularize quality higher education in all the three regions of the State.
He said this while inaugurating a symposium on “Teacher-Student Relationship in Present Scenario” at Government Degree College (GDC), Banihal.
Malik said that the students have to face new challenges at National and International level to compete in different streams and accordingly it is need of the hour to provide them education of par excellence.
Responding to various demands of college authorities, Malik assured that their genuine demands will be fulfilled in a phased manner.
MLA, Banihal, Vikar Rasool, who was the guest of honour, on the occasion, in his address impressed upon better teacher student relationship.
During the symposium, Parvez Ahmed Pedhar, Waseem Sajad Malik and Naseer Hussain, were given cash prizes of Rs 500, Rs 400 and Rs 300 respectively.
Nine students of BA part I, II and III, who are orphans and poor were given financial assistance cheques by Minister.
During the symposium, Prof SP Bhagat, Prof Musasir Rehman and Prof Khursheed Alam, were the jury members, who evaluated the performance of the participants.
E arlier, Prof Tara Nath, Principal of the College, presented the welcome address and threw light on the achievements of the students in curriculum and co-curriculum activities.
At the end, Prof Mushtaq Ahmed Sohil, presented vote of thanks.
Later, Malik presided over an officers meeting at Ramban, which was attended by the functionaries of Labour and Employment department. The meeting was among others attended by heads of various construction companies of operating in Ramban.
Malik impressed upon the construction companies to implement labour laws in letter and spirit and evolve strategy for safety and security of construction workers.
The issue of registration of construction workers came under discussion.
