JAMMU, Jan 16: The Chairman, Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra today directed the enforcement departments to ensure smooth flow of traffic on Jammu city roads and its adjoining areas by checking illegal parking and other violations.
Chairing a meeting of officers of Traffic, Motor Vehicle and other concerned departments here today, the Chairman asked the Traffic Department to depute more traffic police personnel to curb traffic violations including jumping of traffic signals. He also called for installing CCTV cameras at all important junctions to track down the violators.
Referring to other violations, he stressed the need for strictly checking wrong side driving and haphazard parking along Bypass National Highway, adding that the practice has been found as main cause of accidents in the areas of Narwal and Channi Himmat.
“Parking on service-lanes on by pass stretch of National Highway cause traffic jams by chocking the side lanes, which is required to be dealt strictly”, Chairman said.
The Chairman also directed for installing more traffic signal lights along the bypass to maintain smooth flow of traffic on the busy stretch.
Inspector General of Police Jammu, Muneer Khan, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Watali, SSP Traffic Jammu, Pawan Parihar and Deputy Transport Commissioner, Jammu, M.L. Raina, Additional Secretary Council, Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and other senior officers of Council Secretariat attended the meeting.
The meeting held threadbare discussion on various other measures imperative for improvement of traffic management system on the city roads.
