BARAMULLA, Feb 25: The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, North Kashmir, Garib Dass, today said that security forces this year achieved major success against Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and would wipe out the traces of the outfit in North Kashmir soon.
While addressing a press conference after the arrest of a Pakistani Fidayeen, the DIG said that the JeM has received set back in Kashmir valley as “we have busted their network recently”. “This is third success against JeM. In Handwara we busted their network. The arrest of Fidayeen is a very big success. We will now wipe out the traces of JeM”, he added.
Flanked by SSP Baramulla, Imtiaz Hussain, Commanding Officers of 46 and 52 RR, Dass told reporters that security forces recently got inputs about a JeM Fidayeen entering Baramulla after they busted a JeM module recently. “We had busted their module in Handwara and from there we got leads. We got leads that one member of Afzal Guru squad had entered Baramulla”, he said.
The DIG said that Army and Police apprehend a Fiydayeen, Mohammad Sidiq, affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad during the operation. “When we got this information, a joint operation was launched by 52 RR and 46 RR and SOG team. They first identified him and then took calculated risk to arrest him”, he said.
Dass said that he was part of Fidayeen group who carried out attack in Tanghdar in November. “He is from Sialkote in Pakistan. He was part of Fidayeen group that carried out attack and he escaped from security forces operation”, he said.
The DIG said that Sadiq was trying to set up a base in Baramulla when he was arrested by the security forces. “When he contacted his handlers in Pakistan, he was asked to settle his base in Baramulla. He was told by his handlers that he will be asked about the next target later”, he said.
When asked, how did the Fidayeen manage to get out of the Army camp, Dass said: “This is part of tactics. He went to forest and then he closed weapons and came to Baramulla. He had to meet the JeM chief. He received the training in JeM training camp. They were tasked to target any vital installations in Army camp”, he said.
A Police spokesman later said that acting on specific information that a Pakistani Fidayeen has made entry in Baramulla town, police along with CRPF 46 and 52 RR launched multiple operations in and around Baramulla.
“After sustained operations one Fidayeen terrorist Mohammad Sidiq alias Shahid son of Mohammad Jameel resident of Sialkot, Pakistan was apprehended. In these operations his five associates were also arrested who were identified as Suhail Arif Ganaie son of Mohammad Arif Ganaie resident of Sherwani Colony Khawjabagh, Rashid Rasool Bhat son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat resident of Darwah Wagoora at present Dar Mohalla Drangbal, Javaid Ahmad Dhobi alias Shalla Dhobi son of late Mohammad Sultan Dhobi resident of Mohalla Syed Karim Baramulla, Farhan Fayaz Liloo son of Fayaz Ahmad Lillo and Ehsan Fayaz Lillo son of Fayaz Ahmad Lillo residents of Jamia Mohalla Baramulla”, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said: “One AK-47 rifle, 5 AK magazines, 150 AK rounds, 6 grenades, one wireless set, one pouch, one carry bag and a matrix sheet was recovered from their possession.”
“During investigation it came to fore that the Pakistani terrorist was accomplice of Fidayeen attackers who attacked Army camp in Tanghdar Kupwara on November 25th of 2015. His three colleagues got killed in the said attack and he escaped to Baramulla. He was in the process of creating a base for further terrorist activities in Baramulla which was foiled by timely action of police and security forces.
