JAMMU, Feb 25: In order to popularize folk arts and culture amongst the youth, Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, has organized ‘Lok Rang Mahotsava’ a two-day colourful event of Folk Music, Dances and Arts.
The event has been specially designed for the students of all the affiliated B Ed. Colleges of Jammu where students are presenting various folk performances with rich culture of the State.
The event was inaugurated today by Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar JU, who expressed his happiness over organizing such a meaningful programme by the Department of Students Welfare where students get a chance to get closer to their cultural roots and traditional ethnicity.
Jai Kumar Sharma, Director College Development Council was the guest of honour. Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Pankaj K Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, informed about the programme, which will run for two days and would feature folk songs, folk dances and Rangoli where students would compete and the Silver Rolling Trophy will be awarded to the overall champions.
On the first day, events of folk song, group and solo, were held. Folk Dances and Rangoli would be featured on 26th of February at the same venue. Various Dogri Folk songs were performed by the participants in which the rich cultural heritage of Jammu was reflected very glaringly.
Prof Alka Sharma, Co-Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, presented the formal vote of thanks. She emphasized on the importance and relevance of the cultural activities in one’s life. Dr Kuldeep Raina and Surinder Manhas were the adjudicators while Dr Meghna Dhar was the teacher in-charge of the events. Members of Campus Cultural Committee, students, scholars and cultural secretaries were present at the occasion. The event was coordinated by Ifra Kak, Culture Officer and Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor.
