JAMMU, Aug 4: In a major success, Udhampur Police have busted major narcotics trade racket involving Kashmir and Punjab smugglers with recovery of Rs 1.91 crore cash and heroin in Udhampur with arrest of one accused while his associate died in an accident trying to flee from the spot.
Police didn’t rule out the possibility of narco smugglers’ links with militants saying this will be part of investigations going by the recovery of huge cash from the possession of accused.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh said one of the smugglers was killed in an accident while trying to escape from the spot after being spotted at police naka at Udhampur while another has been captured.
Singh said Rs 1,91,34,030 and 250 grams of heroin were recovered from the vehicle in which the narco traders were travelling. Click here to watch video

SSP Udhampur Dr Vinod Kumar said police intercepted Scorpio vehicle No. 6219 PB08BS at Gole Mela Petrol Pump on Dhar road at 10.30 pm last night.
On observing movement of police, two persons jumped out of the Scorpio and ran towards main road. In the process, one of them identified as Mukhtiar Ahmad son of Khalil-ur-Rehman of Prada Tangdhar in Kupwara district was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle while his associate Jagtar Singh son of Jarnail Singh of Pakhopur in Taran Taran area of Punjab was nabbed by Udhampur Police Station party headed by SHO Inspector Chaman Gorkha.
Injured was shifted to the District Hospital Udhampur from where he was referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu but he succumbed to his injuries.
DIG Udhampur-Reasi range Suleman Choudhary visited the spot for investigations.
The Scorpio vehicle has been seized. Charas and cash were concealed in the vehicle.
“As of now, both accused appeared to be narco traders but the possibility of their links with the militants is not ruled out. All this will be part of investigations,” police said.
A case under First Information Report (FIR) No. 338/2022 and Sections 8/21/22/27A/27 NDPS Act has been registered and investigations were set into motion.
Recovery of such a large amount from the possession of accused indicated that the accused could be linked to narco terror racket but this is part of investigations, police officials said.
