JAMMU, June 17: Mahant Rohit Shastri, the President of Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sanathan Trust, today met Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, to discuss the promotion of Devvani Sanskrit in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, Shastri presented a proposal to upgrade the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sanskrit Gurukul Katra to an Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyala under the Central Government Scheme of Central Sanskrit University in New Delhi.
The proposal aims to enhance the institution’s intake capacity, thereby creating more opportunities for Sanskrit students, especially those residing in remote areas. By recognizing the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sanskrit Gurukul as an Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, the burden on the Shrine Board would be alleviated, leading to financial relief.
The Central Sanskrit University already extends funding to Adarsh Sanskrit Colleges in various states. Therefore, Shastri said that granting the status of an Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sanskrit Gurukul would contribute significantly to the restoration of Sanskrit philosophy in the state.
He said the upgraded institution would serve as a beacon of learning, attracting students from different regions and providing them with quality education in Sanskrit.
“This initiative aligns with the Government’s efforts to revive and propagate Sanskrit education across the country. It highlights the importance of Sanskrit as a language that encompasses profound wisdom and knowledge, and its recognition in Jammu and Kashmir would further strengthen its prominence,” he said.
