JAMMU, Sept 5: Mahant Rohit Shastri, President, Shri Kailakh Jyotish Eevam Vedic Sansthan Trust, has requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in ensuring regular operation of Jammu Tawi Express from Jammu to Rishikesh.
In a letter to the Lieutenant Governor, Rohit Shastri has mentioned that presently only one regular daily train service Hemkund Express operates between Katra and Rishikesh. Due to this limited service, residents of Jammu and Kashmir face difficulties in travelling to Uttarakhand. Furthermore, securing a reservation on this train has become a significant challenge for the citizens.
Previously, in response to public demand, the Ministry of Railways had introduced “Yog Nagari Rishikesh-Jammu Tawi Express” as a weekly service. However, this has only partially benefited the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. As per Hindu scriptures, it is mandatory to immerse the ashes of the deceased in Haridwar within 10 days. Due to the limited train service from Jammu, families who need to travel urgently for immersion of ashes and other rituals face significant hardships including higher costs, Rohit Shastri said.
He further said that thousands of students from J&K are studying in Uttarakhand and they also face immense difficulties due to overcrowding. He has requested the LG to urge the Ministry of Railways to ensure regular service of train.
