Mahajan Sabha celebrates Birth Anniversaries of Justice Mehar, Lala Hans Raj

JAMMU, Dec 26: Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha celebrated 126th Birth Anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan and 150th Birth Anniversary of Sher-e-Duggar Lala Hans Raj Mahajan with great enthusiasm here at Mahajan Bhawan, Shalamar Road.
The function started with the recitation of Ganesh Vandana and Saraswati Vandana followed by ‘shradhanjalies’ to Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan and Lala Hans Raj Mahajan by lighting lamps by the chief guest, Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly.
Kavinder was accompanied by former Union Minister, Chaman Lal Gupta and special guests, Rajesh Gupta (MLA Jammu East), Pawan Gupta (MLA Udhampur), Naresh Gupta (MLC), Vivodh Gupta (MLC), Kuldip Gupta (Vice Chairman, Pahari Board), Rattan Lal Gupta (Ex-MLC) and Ved Mahajan (Ex-MLC).
In his presidential address, Vinod Gupta, president, Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, highlighted the activities undertaken by the Sabha and emphasized the Sabha members to follow the path shown by Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan and Lala Hans Raj Mahajan.
Kavinder Gupta while paying tributes to Justice Mehar Chand Gupta, appreciated his contribution as a member of Red-cliff commission in playing a major role in connecting the J&K State with rest of India through Gurdaspur and while recalling the role of Lala Hans Raj Mahajan, he termed him a great social reformer. Chaman Lal Gupta and other special guests also spoke on the occasion.
On the occasion, children of Mahajan biradri presented various cultural programmes and performed Bhangra and other dances. Later, the Sabha honoured KB Jandial (social activist), SSP Rajinder Gupta, Sanjeev Pargal (senior journalist), Amar Chand Gupta, IC Jandial, Prem Gupta, Dr Madan Gopal, Varendra Gupta, Surinder Mohan Gupta and Pawan Gupta.
Besides, various persons of Mahajan community, who excelled in different fields, Mahajan couples, who solemnized marriage without dowry, were also honoured by the Sabha.
The function concluded with vote of thanks by Amar Chand Gupta, patron of the Sabha.
