JAMMU, Mar 22: Son of the Soil, Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma has brought glory to J&K in general and Jammu in particular by receiving the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The award was presented to Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma in a glittering ceremony held on March 20. The ceremony was also attended by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and other dignitaries.
Born in Sunjuwan to a modest family of late Bodhraj Sharma, Lt Gen Sharma metered his rise to become the Director General of Operational Logistics (DG OL & SM), also known as the Logistic Head of 12.5 Lakh strong Indian Army.
He had a very chequer service with numerous Command and Staff appointments. He is from Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI). He has commanded a Battalion, Brigade, Division and Officer’s Training Academy, Gaya. He has the unique distinction of being a Counter Insurgency expert, an Academician, HR and Logistic Head of the Army. He retired from the service on January 31, 2017 and has planned to contribute to the masses of Jammu.
