Lok Rang Mahotsava begins at JU

JAMMU, Apr 16: Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu is organizing “Lok Rang Mahotsava”, a festival of folk songs and folk dances.
Director College Development Council, Prof Deshbandhu Gupta, formally inaugurated the festival in the presence of Dean Students Welfare Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Station Director, Radio Kashmir Jammu V K Sambyal and Co-Chairman Campus Cultural Committee, Prof Samir Gupta.
Lok Rang Mahotsav is a newly introduced annual programme, organized especially for B Ed colleges. It is a festival of folk dances and folk music, which comprises of three main events “Folk Song (Group), Folk Song (Solo) and Folk Dance.
The need to organize such festival was the regular request by some B Ed Colleges to participate in some cultural festivals as they are not able to participate in “Display Your Talent” due to their different admission schedule. A running trophy was also introduced in “Lok Rang Mahotsava” which is donated by CDC and hence named as CDC Overall champions Trophy.
Almost 300 students from different B Ed colleges are participating in the said event. The day was marked with the melodious presentations of folk songs of different regions. Tomorrow a competition of folk dances will be conducted at the same venue starting at 10 a m.
Others, who were present at the occasion, included Dr Anupama Vohra, Dr Jitender Khajuria, Neeraj Sharma, Ifra Kak, Sumeet Sharma and members of Campus Cultural Committee. The show was compeered by Anam Khan and Mridhu.
